FILIAL FORENSE CHILENA

A leading telecommunications client came to us to resolve a critical situation.

They had a serious problem with the general manager of their organisation in Chile. They have received an anonymous email indicating that countless abuses were being committed by their director.

Moreover, the manager, who has been working in the company for the last three years, is acting in an increasingly discretionary manner, taking important decisions without consulting the parent company.

With the help of our partner in Chile, we started an intensive research on the manager.

Firstly, we investigated the manager's professional background, and we were able to verify that he had been dismissed from a company in the past for bribery of public officials.

On the other hand, the current assets of the investigated person were examined, and a notable increase was confirmed. In addition, he has moved to one of the most luxurious areas of the capital. He had a good salary, but not enough to afford to live in that area. Both he and his wife drove new high-end cars, and his 3 children were attending an expensive international school near the new residence. All indications were that he was earning substantial extra income.

We asked the client to let us verify the entire supplier structure of the Chilean subsidiary. We noted that in the last two years more than 50 % of the suppliers were new. Every time a contract with a supplier expired, the contract was ended. We continued to investigate the companies behind the new suppliers, noting that some of these companies were managed by the wife of the brother of the investigated. In particular, the companies that carry out all the courier, logistics, personnel transport and catering services within the company's premises. Moreover, these companies had increased their turnover with the company by more than 35 % compared to the previous suppliers.

With our forensic work, we were able to prove that the manager was unlawfully enriching himself with the new suppliers, and that this also resulted in additional annual costs of more than 600,000 euros for the client company.
