INSURANCE FRAUD

An important insurance company asked us to investigate the circumstances of an accident for its motor branch.

According to the insured's version, an accident occurred without the involvement of any other vehicle. The results of the alleged accident showed significant material damage to the car. After the valuation of the vehicle a total loss was declared, and the sum to be compensated was a significant amount.

The enquiries and investigations carried out by Grupo Paradell revealed that this vehicle had had a major and costly engine breakdown prior to the accident that had not been repaired.

The investigation revealed that the owner of the vehicle had acted fraudulently and that this was not the first time he had acted in this way. His family network had used the same modus operandi in other reported claims.

The tactic used by the fraudsters was that several members of the family bought vehicles with major engine damage for quite low amounts. After insuring the cars and after a few months they simulated an accident with significant material damage, once the vehicle was declared a total loss, the market value was much higher than the amount paid by them.

The investigations carried out by Grupo Paradell enabled the company to save thousands of euros in compensation and to dismantle a fraudulent network.
